Plain English. No legalese.
TL;DR
Split My is a convenience tool that helps you track shared expenses. It's not a financial service, payment processor, or legal entity. You're responsible for settling up in real life — I'm just helping you do the maths. Use it fairly, don't abuse it, and we're good.
What Split My is (and isn't)
Split My is a tool for tracking who paid what in a group and calculating how to settle up. It helps with the arithmetic — it doesn't move money, hold funds, or act as a financial intermediary of any kind.
Split My is not a bank, payment processor, financial adviser, or accounting service. The numbers it shows are informational only — always verify calculations before making real financial decisions.
Who can use it
You must be at least 13 years old to use Split My. By using the app, you confirm that you meet this requirement and that you're using it in a lawful way. If you're using Split My on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have the authority to agree to these terms on their behalf.
Your account
Keep your account secure. Don't share your magic link or access with anyone else. One account per person — don't create multiple accounts to work around any restrictions.
You're responsible for anything that happens under your account. If you think someone has accessed your account without permission, email splitmy@icloud.com immediately.
Acceptable use
Please do:
- Use Split My for legitimate expense tracking with real people
- Be honest about amounts and who owes what
- Get consent before adding someone to a group
Please don't:
- Use Split My to harass, defraud, or manipulate others
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or exploit the service
- Input false data to misrepresent debt balances
- Do anything illegal under Malaysian law or the laws where you are
Ghost participants & consent
Split My lets group creators add people by name before they've signed up. If you use this feature, you take responsibility for:
- Getting consent from the people you add
- Ensuring the names and amounts you enter are accurate
- Removing someone if they ask to be removed
I'm not responsible for disputes that arise from inaccurate or unconsented use of the ghost participant feature.
Financial disclaimer
Split My shows you calculated balances based on the data you enter. These numbers are for informational purposes only. I'm not responsible for:
- Disputes between group members about what's owed
- Errors arising from incorrect data entry
- Currency conversion inaccuracies
- Financial loss of any kind resulting from use of the app
Availability
Split My is a solo project — there's no team standing behind a server room. I aim to keep it up and running but I can't promise 100% uptime, no downtime for maintenance, or instant bug fixes. There's no formal SLA. I'll do my best, and I appreciate your patience when things go wrong.
Intellectual property
Your data is yours. The expense data, trip names, and other content you enter belong to you. I don't claim any ownership over it.
Split My's brand and design are mine. The Split My name, logo, visual design, and codebase are my intellectual property. Don't copy or replicate them without permission.
Termination
You can stop using Split My at any time. To delete your account, email splitmy@icloud.com.
I reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice. I'll be reasonable — this is about protecting the service from abuse, not catching people out.
Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time. If I make material changes, I'll update the "Last updated" date and notify you by email if the change is significant. Continuing to use Split My after changes means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Malaysia. I know that's not ideal for everyone — but as a solo operator based in Malaysia, it's the only jurisdiction I can reasonably commit to.
